Conqueror Hernando Cortez led a group of whiny-turned capable men on a risky, yet highly-rewarding excursion. Just as they landed on the enemy’s distant shore, Cortez called his men together for a pep talk. His encouraging words: “Burn the boats.” His men would either go home in their enemy’s boats or not at all.
A happy and lasting marriage is a risky, yet highy-rewarding excursion undertaken by two people who keep making decisions to burn their boats of whining, complaining, selfishness, bitterness, unforgiveness, divorce, abusive behavior and language, infidelity, and the like.
For the sake of your marriage, burn the boats.
