How to Give Yourself to Your Spouse

Unless you give yourself to the Lord first, you’re going to find it difficult & draining to give yourself to your spouse. In 1 Corinthians 5:8, the Apostle Paul wrote the following about the people in Macedonia, “They first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.”

Why is it so important that you give yourself to the Lord first? To gain his perspective, power, and provision.

First of all, without God’s perspective of why and how you should be giving yourself to your spouse, you may not want to do it. You’ll look for some other way to do marriage because you’ll find it too difficult. Secondly, without getting his power, you’ll find giving yourself to your spouse too draining. You won’t have the grace necessary to give in God’s power. Finally, without giving yourself to God first, you won’t have anything to give. You can only impart what you possess, and without God’s provision, you don’t have anything to give. His provision includes this power, love, and wisdom in concert with your natural skills and abilities.

Give yourself to God first, then you’ll find yourself better equipped to give yourself to your spouse.
